About the Tufts Democrats:
This year, the CDM chapter at Tufts had plenty of social and political activities to keep us busy. At the beginning of the year, we did a dorm storm in all of our first-year dorms to register Tufts freshmen to vote. We also did a lot of canvassing in the area for Deval Patrick, State Senator Pat Jehlen, and State Representative Carl Scortiono. In October, Tufts sent a contingent to a rally at the Hynes Convention Center to see Deval Patrick and James Taylor speak. Our first semester was very fast-paced, with November 2nd at the finish line; fortunately, after we scored some wins and had the elections behind us, we could kick back to enjoy some bowling at our local lanes.

After winter break, Deval Patrick came to speak at Tufts to our Dems as well as some local CDM chapters. He thanked us for our hard work on his campaign and talked a bit about how to get more involved with political activism in the future. In March, we visited the Tufts cabin in New Hampshire (affectionately dubbed “The Loj”) and bonded over the wilderness, card games, and our progressive roots. The following Friday, the Dems hosted our annual Issues of the Future Symposium, at which we talked about food policy and the government subsidies. Capping off our year of democratic festivities were our executive board elections and our Freshman Representative, Taylor Barnard, being appointed by CDM to the position of Programs Director. The 2010-2011 school year flew by, but we are excited to see what next year has in store for our active chapter of progressives.
