About the Emerson College Democrats:
The 2010-2011 school year was a great one for the Emerson Democrats! We played a big part in both local and state campaigns during the 2010 election season. We deployed our members to campaign for Democratic candidates across Massachusetts, including throughout Plymouth, Boston, and Newton, and participated in two statewide CDM Campaign Invasions. We held phone banking events on campus every Thursday night throughout October and compiled all of our efforts to make Election Day as successful as possible. The Emerson Democrats also participated in CDM’s Voter Registration Rumble, registering close to 200 Emerson Students before the General Election in November! In addition, the Emerson College Democrats took 2 trips to Washington, D.C. in the fall semester. We represented our chapter at both the One Nation March for job equality and the Rally to Restore Sanity.
Throughout the Spring Semester, the Emerson Democrats hosted a unique women speaker series, entitled “Women in Action: Raising Our Voices.” This series focused on the role that women play in politics and other communication realms today. Speakers included Christina Knowles (Director of MassNOW), Judy Neufeld (Director of Emerge Massachusetts), Ayanna Pressley (At-Large Boston City Councilor), and Sydney Asbury (Deval Patrick’s Campaign Manager). The Emerson Democrats also played an active role in the Boston City Councilor race, volunteering almost every weekend with the Tito Jackson Campaign. The group also traveled to Washington, D.C. in February to attend the Democratic National Committee Annual Conference and the College Democrats of America 2011 Conference.
