Victory for College Democrats Comes Sooner than Expected

Medford , MA — November 6, 2005 —“It was no trouble getting here,” insisted Senator John Kerry, as he talked about his journey to Tufts University . “We just followed Judge Alito's directions. Just take a right every time.” Laughter filled the room of approximately 90 young Democrats leaders representing 22 colleges from across the state, gathered in the Crane Room of Paige Hall.

These 90 young Democrats leaders, most of whom had never met each other, were invited by the Massachusetts Democratic Party, Senator John Kerry and the College Democrats of Massachusetts (CDM) to partake in a political organizing session in preparation for Election 2006.

Senator Kerry smiled broadly and stood on the floor of the room, ignoring the podium and stage, determined to be eye-level with the students. He thanked the students profusely for their help in the campaign, almost as if he had been waiting to do this for a long time. Kerry spoke with great bursts of energy, reminding the students that in the end, every great outcome in United States history had come with a struggle. People had been abused, challenged and inevitably, strengthened for the change they wanted to make and now, he was calling upon them to do the same for their cause.

He spoke these words as a fallen general would, bravely preparing his troops, the college students, for a second battle. He was preparing them for the battle that would come in November of 2006. He encouraged and reaffirmed the young peoples' hopes as he told them, “You are how we breakthrough. You connect the dots for the people.”

The Senator's message corresponded perfectly with the message that the Massachusetts Democratic Party's campaign Mass Victory'06 wanted to instill in the students. Victory '06 plans include instating a precinct captain in every precinct and two campus coordinators in every college in the state. This new plan, changed since the last election cycle, now takes into account and acknowledges college students as a viable resource in campaign strategy.

The College Democrats of Massachusetts are very optimistic about the session. “Our party is preparing on all levels to the right the wrongs of the previous Republican administrations. The energy evident today will continue as we work to elect a Democrat to the corner office next year,” Justin Galacki, President of CDM, stated firmly.
