“The leadership and members of College Democrats of Massachusetts were very sad to learn of the passing of our Honorary Chair, Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Throughout his career, Sen. Kennedy passionately fought for causes that affect so many young people across the nation: for federal funding of public and higher education, for bringing young soldiers home from war, and for ensuring access to health coverage for all. Perhaps most importantly for college students, Sen. Kennedy was instrumental in passing a constitutional amendment to grant the right to vote to 18 year olds, and in doing so ensured that the most basic right – the right to vote – would be available to millions of students. Senator Kennedy not only fought for our causes, but enabled and encouraged us to fight for our own causes as well. Regardless of his age, Sen. Kennedy was always a champion of young people, and his death has created a void that will not soon be filled.”
